Planning a construction project? Use this Building Material Quantity Estimator to estimate the concrete, cement, sand, gravel, bricks and mortar needed for a slab or wall. Enter your dimensions, choose your units, and adjust material prices to get a helpful quantity and cost estimate before buying supplies.
For a slab, enter its length, width and thickness. All three measurements use the selected unit.
Prices are sample values for demonstration, not live market prices. Choose your currency and replace the sample prices with local supplier rates. Changing currency updates the sample prices.
This tool provides a preliminary estimate, not a structural design or construction specification. Actual quantities depend on site conditions, material dimensions, workmanship, mix design and local standards. Labour, delivery, taxes, reinforcement, formwork, foundations and other materials are not included. Consult a qualified construction professional before purchasing materials or beginning structural work.
How to Estimate Building Materials
The materials needed for a construction project depend on its dimensions, material sizes and mix proportions. This calculator provides a starting estimate for a concrete slab or brick wall.
Example 1: Concrete Slab
Suppose you are preparing a slab that is 20 feet long, 12 feet wide and 6 inches thick.
- Length: 20 feet
- Width: 12 feet
- Thickness: 0.5 feet
- Concrete volume before extra allowance: approximately 3.40 m³
With a 5% allowance, the estimated concrete volume is approximately 3.57 m³. The calculator also estimates cement bags, sand, aggregate and their costs using your selected mix ratio and prices.
Example 2: Brick Wall
For a wall measuring 20 feet long, 10 feet high and 9 inches thick, enter the dimensions, brick size and mortar settings. If the wall has doors or windows, enter their combined area to improve the estimate.
The calculator estimates the number of bricks, mortar, cement, sand and material costs. Actual quantities depend on the brick size, wall thickness, mortar joints and construction method.
Note: These results are approximate planning estimates, not a substitute for a structural design or a contractor’s material schedule. Confirm quantities, mix specifications and local building requirements with a qualified construction professional before purchasing materials.
