How to Calculate the Number of Bricks for a Wall
To estimate the number of bricks, enter the wall’s length and height, choose the wall type, and provide your brick dimensions. The calculator accounts for mortar joints, doors and windows, and extra bricks for wastage.
You can also enter your local brick and mortar prices to estimate the total material cost. For a more accurate estimate, use the dimensions and prices supplied by your local building-material dealer.
Example
Suppose you are building a wall with these measurements:
- Wall length: 5 metres
- Wall height: 3 metres
- Brick size: 190 × 90 × 90 mm
- Mortar joint: 10 mm
- Wall type: Single
- Extra allowance: 5%
The wall has a gross area of 15 m² before subtracting any doors or windows. With the selected brick dimensions and mortar joint, the calculator estimates the required bricks and adds the wastage allowance.
Choose Double Wall to estimate a wall made with two brick layers. Your final quantities and costs will depend on the dimensions, construction method and local prices you enter.
Note: This calculator provides approximate material estimates for planning purposes. Actual brick and mortar requirements can vary with brick size, bonding pattern, mortar thickness, breakage and construction practices. Check your measurements and confirm material quantities with a qualified builder before purchasing.
